Stop Gap Systems

Frequently Asked Questions

Q – Our transport operation uses dedicated made trailers which couple closely to our vehicles. How would it benefit us? – Fleet Director
A – If the cab or trailer is never going to be separated due to a dedicated cab and trailer combination and the fifth-wheel doesn't move, then no fuel saving benefit is to be gained. However if either is likely to be used in conjunction with a different prime mover / trailer and / or the fifth-wheel moves, then this is when the accidental damage issues may arise and the system, or parts of it will make the coupling-up process safer.

Q – I thought all trailers were made to British Standard and don’t differ in manufacture. - Vehicle Manufacturer Product Director
A – It is true that all trailers are made to a British Standard but because they may be designed for different types of operation and distribution weights of goods, the pin on the trailer can be anything between 95 - 160 cms from the headboard.

Q – Do you offer systems for left-hand-drive vehicles? – Transport Department United States of America
A - Yes. We have visited the USA to establish possible fuel savings. The cab-gaps generally were larger than here in the UK and so we are now manufacturing suitable systems designed using inches for left-hand-drive vehicles in the USA.

Q – Can anyone fit the system? – Transport Manager
A – No. The system is sold subject to being fitted by one of our trained and approved technicians.

Q – Do you offer training for personnel to fit the system? – Transport Manager
A – Yes. Technician training is offered where the individual(s) will complete a 1-day course. Upon successful completion the individual(s) will receive certification and a stamp identification tool to be used on any fitments that are completed by that individual. This ensures that the equipment being used is a genuine Stop Gap™ product and that it has been fitted by a competent person.

Q – How long does it take to measure up a trailer and fit it with the dimension plate? – Transport Manager
A – It may be possible to measure up and fix the dimension plate to 4 trailers in 1 hour using purpose-made jigs.

Q – How long does it take to fit the complete system to the cab? – Transport Manager
A – It takes about 1.5 hrs for the fitment of the complete system to the prime mover.

Q - Do you offer a warranty?
A - Yes. The system is warranted for 12 months (excluding any misuse).
